A few weeks ago I bought myself a Canon TX1. After weeks of extensive use, it has now been promoted to my primary video camera!
I figured it’s only fitting that I do a video review of the thing (below).
But the long and the short of it is; for the price (I paid $330) and size, there ain’t nothing better.
It’s not without its flaws (poor performance in low light, and tricky one handed operation) but its benefits (ultra-compact, 720p video, 7.1MP camera, face detect) far outweigh its downsides for my main usage scenario (outdoor video of my kids).
Also, click here (or right-click to save as) for a sample video direct from the camera (Note: the original file is a 420MB AVI, I compressed it to a 73MB WMV and it’s practically the same as the original.
